The Donald's Unreliable Grapevine
by Dr. E. Faye Williams
(TriceEdneyWire.com) -
Donald Trump took the news media on quite a ride with his hearsay information before
the President decided to take the extraordinary step of asking the State
of Hawaii to settle the matter. Not many things shock me, but I must
say that I was shocked by the venom in Trump’s attempt to have one of
those “I gotcha” moments on President Barack Obama. For weeks, Trump
has been given an unusual amount of time for spouting his venom on the
President. If Trump is so sure, as he said, that he “can beat Obama”
(the man we know as President Obama), one would wonder why he took on the “birther” issue.
Once he had reason to believe the
President had enough of Trump’s silliness, Trump tried to give himself
wiggle room by moving to another equally silly subject—the President’s
school records. Even if Trump’s recent delusional thoughts were true,
wouldn’t the normal response be to congratulate the President on what a
remarkable recovery he’d made when he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard? No, not a chance the Donald would see it that way – and he didn’t.
It’s rare that one sees Anderson
Cooper of CNN exasperated, but the exhaustive interviews he had with
Trump served one purpose, and that was to show that God could’ve come
down to tell Trump that President Obama was born in the United States
and Trump would have continued his clownish antics so long as mainstream
media gave him the free time to do so. If Trump had people on the
ground in Hawaii trying to prove the President wasn’t legitimate, it
would be interesting to see their report to him. I have a feeling they
told him exactly what the President said and what Hawaiian officials
have been saying since the Clinton campaign first raised the issue that
led nowhere.
It was the Donald’s decision to keep
the “birther” issue alive until he could find another area to question.
He was cynical enough to try to make us believe he was not trying to
hurt the President or distract him from greater issues. Even when the
President presented his proof of birth in Hawaii, Trump questioned the
accuracy of what the government provided to the President. Trump jumped
to the issue of something else that one side of his grapevine told
him—that the President was a good student, but again, Trump challenged the President to prove he was a good student, because Trump’s other grapevine told him the President was a terrible
student! His grapevine gave it to him both ways, but Trump chose the
one that would try to paint the President in a negative light. Does this
sound like a man “honored to be the one to settle the ‘birther’ issue”
or one who is desperately trying to find something to discredit the
President?
If “Celebrity Apprentice” is built
upon Trump’s conspiracy theories and hearsay, isn’t it time for the
American people to say, “We need to be more selective about what we
watch on television? It’s no wonder Bill Cosby slammed Trump for his
attempts to discredit the President with lies and innuendoes, while the
President is working day and night to try to fix the broken nation he
inherited. By choosing not to watch Trump’s junk, we can help NBC to
make a rational decision about who is on next season.
The President says, “I can’t spend all
my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead”, and he
should never have had to be distracted with this garbage. It’s time for
the American people to say, “Let’s Get It On” with the legitimate
business of the nation.
